ABOUT THE IMAGE:  "Little boy blue, come blow your horn." Donald Duck makes his first appearance in a Mickey Mouse short as the performer of the classic nursery rhyme "Little Boy Blue" in this historic piece! The Burt Gillett-directed short Orphan's Benefit featured four different performers trying to entertain a theater full of orphan mice with piano, operatic singing, dance, and Donald's few stubborn attempts at reciting a nursery rhyme. The 12 field 2-peghole animation drawing shines a spotlight on the classic, sought-after long-billed Donald Duck after he finally loses his patience. The mice want nothing more than to heckle him, and, after trying and failing again and again, Donald decides to take matters into his own hands. The drawing is full figure and rendered in graphite with color pencil highlights, showcasing Donald with the brick that he tosses aside at about 8:09.

ABOUT THE MEDIUM: Original Production Drawings are one-of-a-kind pieces of art that were used in the creation of an animated film or television show. Each has been hand-drawn by a studio artist.
