ABOUT THE IMAGE: The Jetsons is an American animated sitcom produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions. It originally aired in prime time from September 23, 1962, to March 17, 1963, on ABC, then later aired in reruns via syndication, with new episodes produced from 1985 to 1987. It was Hanna-Barbera's Space Age counterpart to The Flintstones.
ABOUT THE MEDIUM: A Model Sheet is a group of character drawings illustrating different poses and expressions of a cartoon character. Because a number of artists work on a single cartoon, these sheets are circulated to the animators to give a uniform look and feel to a character throughout a production. Model sheets can also xeroxed (printed) or painted onto acetate to create what is known as a "model cel."
ABOUT THE ARTISTS: Prolific American artist Richard 'Dick' Bickenbach spent his early career working for Warner Bros. where he animated numerous Looney Tunes shorts from 1939 to 1947. He joined MGM in 1947 where he animated nearly eighty Tom and Jerry shorts over the next decade. He was one of Hanna-Barbera’s first employees and continued there for the next twenty years as both an animator and layout artist. Bickenbach was responsible for drafting many of the studio’s early model sheets and character designs. His influence on the style of Hanna-Barbera’s early cartoons cannot be overstated.
Bob Singer (born 1928) is an American animation artist, character designer, layout and background artist and storyboard director of animated television programs, most memorably of several Hanna-Barbera productions such as The Flintstones, Jonny Quest, Scooby-Doo, Yogi Bear, Droopy, Tom and Jerry, The Jetsons, The Smurfs, Super Friends, Richie Rich, and the Harlem Globetrotters cartoons.
