The Empire Strikes Back VFX Storyboards
These amazing storyboard prints come from the personal collection of award-winning miniature and optical effects artist Lorne Peterson. All were used during the production of Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, for which Peterson was the chief model maker. His work within the modeling and VFX departments was instrumental to the success of the first six Star Wars films, as well as a variety of other blockbuster hits, including Jurassic Park, Ghostbusters, and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. In 1985, Lorne Peterson received an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for his work on Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
Originally from Vancouver, Canada, Lorne Peterson was invited by fellow model maker John Dykstra to work in the miniature and optical effects department of George Lucas' Star Wars: A New Hope, where he helped design and build the Star Destroyers, Imperial TIE fighters, and other classic vehicles. During pre-production, Peterson, Dykstra, and their cohort of fellow artists working under Lucas co-founded effects company Industrial Light & Magic.
