ABOUT THE ART: This early storyboard print comes from the collection of award-winning miniature and optical effects artist Phil Trippett. Trippet was hired by George Lucas as a stop motion animator for the chess scene in Star Wars: A New Hope. Impressed by his work, he was promoted and became the head of the animation department for Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back where he impressed audiences with terrifying AT-ATs and lively otherwordly aliens such as the tauntauns on Hoth. Trippett continued his work on the Star Wars trilogy and earned his first Academy Award for Visual Effects for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
During and following the production of the Star Wars trilogy, he gained recognition and was brought on to work on several other films such as Robocop, Dragonslayer, and Jurassic Park which earned him his second Academy Award for Visual Effects. After concluding the Star Wars films in 1983, he founded Tippett Studio the following year.
